About

Welcome to the Butte Humane Society (BHS). We are one of the oldest non-profit agencies in Butte County, California, working since 1911 to bring humanitarian care to dogs, cats and other animals. We are a low kill shelter that strives to make our animals as comfortable as possible during their stay with us.

Our goal at the Butte Humane Society is to find loving homes for all the lost, abandoned and otherwise unwanted animals that come through our door, and to provide education to the public concerning animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering.

The Board of Directors, staff and volunteers of the Butte Humane Society are committed to a common goal: to place all adoptable animals into loving, caring homes and reduce the suffering brought about by companion animal overpopulation, abuse and neglect.

Our mission is to provide and advocate humane treatment of companion and other animals through promotion of compassion, responsible stewardship and public awareness in our community and the world we share.

Financial Information: At the end of each fiscal year, BHS files Form 990 Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax in accordance with Internal Revenue Service regulations. The most recent submission of that report can be viewed here.
