Spay & Neuter

At this time Butte Humane Society does not have a spay & neuter facility to alter your pet(s). There is currently no low-cost spay/neuter clinic in the Chico area.  However, BHS does offer a  low-cost spay/neuter shuttle once a month, which we believe will help curb the high number of unaltered pets in our community.

BHS Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Shuttle

On the 1st Thursday of the month, BHS offers a shuttle service from Chico to Walker Street Vetrinary Clinic for up to 10 animals (owner pays for the cost). For more information or to register, please contact the shelter at (530) 343-7917. 

Prices:

  • $29.50 for a cat neuter
  • $49.50 for a cat spay
  • $59 - $135 dog neuter (depends on weight)
  • $68 - $135 dog spay (depends upon weight)
  • Additional charge from the vet my apply if animal is in heat or pregnant
  • BHS charges $3 per animal to help cover transportation, handling and administrative costs

    Did you know that California has a law requiring all animals adopted from shelters are to be spayed or neutered before they go home with their new family? 

    If you've decided to adopt from our shelter, you may already be aware of the serious problem of animal overpopulation. There are many more animals born every day than there are homes to take them in.  Butte Humane Society would like to thank you for doing your part in controling pet overpopulation in Butte County by Spaying and Neutering your animals.
