On Monday (11/16), Butte Humane Society took in 11 American pit bull terriers rescued from the largest dog fighting raid in US history.  These dogs and hundreds of others have been located in an emergency shelter run by Humane Society of Missouri in St. Louis since the July 8 raid, in which over 500 dogs were seized.  To read recently released news articles, click here!

More photos and full biographies will be available on our website after their adoption evaluations. The rescued dogs will be available for adoption after a mandatory six week foster period. While they cannot be adopted during this six week period, applications for adoption will be accepted during this time.

The 1600-mile transport from St. Louis to Sacramento was coordinated and carried out by Best Friends Animal Society, based in Utah. Pit Bull Rescue Central and The Humane Society of the United States also assisted with the transfer of the dogs in California. Three other West Coast groups also took in dogs from the raid, including one group who traveled from Portland, Oregon to pick them up. These dogs are being cared for in addition to the hundreds of dogs and puppies that we receive during the winter.  To help with these additional costs, donations are much needed and would be greatly appreciated.
