The 8th Annual Puppy Love & Kitten Kisses Valentine's Dinner was held on Friday the 13th of February, 2009 at the Chico Masonic Family Center. The night started out with an opportunity for animal lovers to get to know one another, settle in and view the terrific items in the live auction, silent auction and raffles.

Live Jazz by The Mahoneys played in the background as wine from Grey Fox Vineyards and beer from Feather River Brewing Co. was served.

Once the dessert auction began, the room was filled with laughter and excitement. Supporters rapidly outbid one another for sweet treats like double chocolate truffle cake and berry cheesecake pie. The dessert item from Mim's Bakery was once again the most fiercely-sought prize - the citron-framboise cake was purchased for an astounding $700.00.

After a terrific buffet dinner catered by The Italian Guy Catering, the first round of raffle winners were announced. Dozens upon dozens of fantastic items were donated by individuals and businesses in our community, and many winners came away with great deals on theatre tickets, dance classes, fine art, autographed photos, luxurious gift baskets, and much more.

Auctioneer Jerome Nelson kept the fun and excitement rolling throughout the live auction. As the dollars climbed higher, some of our finest prizes ever were bid upon and won, like the generous gift from our Silver Sponsor - Sterling Vineyards (picture to the right) - a rare 9 liter bottle of Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and a weekend trip for four to the Sterling Vineyards Winery.

Scott Schulman, a Butte Humane Society Board Director, donated a week's stay at his breathtakingly beautiful resort in Taveuni, Fiji. The vacation went to a very lucky long time supporter, Theresa Fagouri - congratulations Theresa, and bon voyage!

After the final raffle winners were announced and check-out was accomplished, the night concluded around 11 p.m. Special thanks to the many volunteers who helped run the event so smoothly and helped make it a special night for every person in attendance.

Thank you again to all those who attended and gave so generously. Without you this event would not be possible, and without your help, we would not be able to care for the thousands of animals that come through our shelter doors each year.
