Piper & Dash

I had two wonderful rescue cats, siblings named Rebel and Lilac. They were two and half years old and devoted to each other. Sadly last fall, Lilac was diagnosed with kidney failure. November and December were a very sad time for me and for Rebel. Both of us were grieving and moping about. In early January 2011 almost six weeks had passed. I determined it was time to get a buddy for Rebel. He was young enough to make friends. It was time he came out from under the bed. He needed companionship while I was at work.

I had gone to the Humane Society with the intention of getting a young female I had seen on the BHS website. This little kitten with huge ears readily climbed onto my shoulder. Her personality was independent and curious and she purred loudly. She was the one. The volunteer at BHS kindly pointed out that the other cat reaching out from the cage and demanding my attention was her brother. She smiled and suggested that he would really miss his sister. She told me that I could adopt both kittens for $55. You can see where this story is headed. I went for one cat and brought home two. The kittens were energetic explorers immediately. Rebel readily responded to his two new friends. Piper (dark/ female) and Dash (beige/male) made themselves right at home. Life at my house is now a delightful three-ring circus. Here are a couple of photos of my happy trio taken within hours of bringing Piper and Dash home.
