Zootoo Event Update

The results are in - we won 2nd place and $50,000.00!
We are thrilled to announce that Butte Humane Society placed 2nd out of the 10 shelters nationwide that competed in the final voting round of the Zootoo.com Shelter Makeover contest. It was a great ride and we are so thrilled to progress this far.

This money has been instrumental in providing some much needed updates around the shelter.  We added a small room to specifically house kittens and sometimes puppies as well.  We hope that this will help keep them healthier especially during the busy kitten season.  Another remodel project included adding a small intake space adjoining our front office so that animals being brought into the shelter don't have to be out in a crowded lobby for long.  Our largest  equipment purchase was an industrial washer and dryer which will be placed in our laundry room once that has also been properly set up for the units.  We go through an enormous amount of blankets and towels for the animals so the residential units we have always had in the past don't often last long!  Other equipment purchases included locks for our outdoor kennels, a WysiWash spray system for better cleaning of the dog kennels, updating a few of the oldest computers, and portable communication systems (walkie talkies) to allow for more efficient communication around the shelter.  The facility certainly still needs further changes, but this definitely helped us make some significant improvements in the lives of the thousands of animals we care for each year.

We want to thank EVERY PERSON who participated in the contest - our voters, volunteers, staff and our supporters. We could not have done it without you. We are so grateful to have you as part of our animal community and we hope you'll continue to support us as we flourish and grow.

What does the future hold for Butte Humane Society?
We ARE going to build a shelter! Our amazing animals deserve it, and our community needs it. As many of you have witnessed, the current facility is much too small and in severe disrepair. A new shelter is necessary to provide the best possible care and services to our community's animals and the people who love them. We are in the planning stages of a new shelter and are looking to our community for your support in this endeavor.
