Spay & Neuter Options
If the BHS shuttle resource is not something you are able to participate in, there are other affordable options in the area for you to consider:
Paws of Chico Spay & Neuter Program provides financial assistance to those who need help with the cost of having their cat or dog spayed or neutered. They currently offer assistance in Chico, Nord, Cohasset, Durham & Forest Ranch. Find out what the March Monthly Special is!
To participate in the program:
- Pick up a Paws application at BHS or the PawPrints Thrift Store
- Call Paws at 530-895-2109 and leave a detailed message
- Visit their website to download the application and learn more about their services.
PAWS of Butte County now offers a low-cost spay and neuter clinic in Oroville! Call 530-534-0900 or visit their website for details.
Walker Street Veterinary Clinic in Orland has the lowest rates in the area - thanks to Dr. Dana and staff for their continued support and cooperation with BHS.
Make sure you check with your local vet for services and specials.
Why is it important to spay and/or neuter your pet?

Butte Humane Society strongly encourages spay/neuter for anyone with an unaltered pet that is allowed to roam outdoors. BHS also encourages people to help take responsibility for the stray animals in their neighborhood by having them spayed/neutered, or bringing them to the shelter so that BHS can provide care, spay/neuter and placement into loving permanent homes. By spaying/neutering your pet you will do your part in controlling the pet population in Butte County.
